Transforming an Ordinary Wall Into a Touch-Enabled Screen With Screen Paint
Have you ever passed by a company, school, or public space and thought, “It’s such a waste to leave this area unused!”? For instance, a large blank wall might seem like a missed opportunity, or a hallway floor might feel strangely empty.
If the space serves a public purpose, someone is likely contemplating how to make it more educational, creative, or even healing. In a previous post, we introduced how an educator at Incheon Hanbyeol Elementary School overcame such a challenge by adding a special interactive floor screen to a long corridor.
Struggling With a Basic Projector Setup
At Dongseong Elementary School, the teacher had high hopes for transforming a plain wall into a source of fun, creativity, and healing for students. However, a low-spec projector and an ordinary wall surface couldn’t deliver the desired brightness or clarity. Simply projecting a video onto a blank wall failed to meet the intended educational and inspirational goals.
A Limited Budget
Of course, achieving a high-quality “media art” level installation would be fantastic, but we always face the reality of budget constraints. Our role is to find the best possible solution within these limits.
Previously, at Hanbyeol Elementary, budget issues prevented the use of screen paint. This time, at Dongseong Elementary, we took the opposite approach: we insisted on using screen paint while keeping the existing projector unchanged.
By applying a dark-silver screen paint, we significantly improved brightness and clarity without having to invest in a new, expensive projector.
Creating a Space of Fun, Creativity, and Healing Through Interactive Media
Merely playing videos on a wall does not fully achieve the goal. With a low-spec projector, it’s challenging to fill the entire surface with bright, immersive imagery.
To overcome these limitations, we integrated IR sensors so that the wall could become touch-sensitive and interactive. Thanks to screen paint’s enhanced contrast, students can actively engage with the content, making it a meaningful, hands-on learning and creative experience.
If you’re considering how to reinvent a space for someone—be it a school, office, or public area—PaintPam may not have the perfect solution for every scenario, but we can help you make informed choices. Leveraging the versatile properties of screen paint and our deep understanding of projection technology, we provide insights that empower you to create flexible, inspiring media environments within any constraints.
The example at Dongseong Elementary School demonstrates that even with a limited budget and existing equipment, you can foster a creative, educational environment. By combining screen paint, projection techniques, and interactive elements, an ordinary wall can become a dynamic digital learning space that offers students a unique and meaningful experience.
