Transforming Vacant Spaces into Pop-Up Media Art to Boost Leasing
From Vacant Glass to Vibrant Screens
Paintpam’s Rear Screen Paint, originally designed for storefront advertising, has evolved to serve broader purposes. While widely used for retail window ads, it has also been applied creatively, as in our partnership with Sejong City for a project with a dual mission:
• Promoting leasing of vacant properties.
• Showcasing artwork by emerging artists.
A Collaborative Project: “Cultural Symbiosis Streets”
In collaboration with Sejong City, Paintpam participated in the Cultural Symbiosis Streets Initiative, tackling the persistent problem of vacant properties in 2021. These properties were not only an eyesore but also negatively impacted surrounding businesses.
The initiative sought to repurpose vacant spaces and flip their negative impact into a positive one. Instead of plastering the windows with posters, we transformed transparent storefront glass into media art displays. These screens showcased the stunning work of unknown artists, creating a dual benefit:
1. Highlighting the creative talent of local artists.
2. Enhancing the aesthetic and commercial appeal of the area.
How Media Art Stimulates Leasing
Turning vacant storefronts into media art installations offers several advantages:
• Increased Visibility: Vibrant displays attract attention, making the property more noticeable to potential tenants.
• Professional Image: Demonstrating care and investment in the property sends a message of professionalism to prospective lessees.
• Versatility: Beyond media art, these screens can display large advertisements or leasing information, maximizing utility.
The result is a property that feels alive and dynamic, rather than abandoned.
The Role of Rear Screen Paint in Vacant Properties
Paintpam’s Rear Screen Paint transforms ordinary transparent glass into a high-contrast, vibrant projection surface with ease:
• Quick Installation: A simple application with a roller and a projector positioned behind the glass instantly creates a screen.
• Easy Removal: When the property is leased, the paint can be removed with water, leaving the glass intact.
• Cost-Effective: The setup requires no permanent fixtures, making it an affordable and efficient option.
Vacant spaces, with no need for ceiling-mounted projectors or complex installations, are particularly well-suited for this approach. The simplicity and flexibility of the setup make it an ideal solution for temporary use.
