A 10-Meter Interactive Flower Path Built With Four Projectors (Dongducheon Youth Science Festival)

The Dongducheon Youth Constellation Science Festival is in its 21st year. Each fall, the city turns a public plaza into a stargazing weekend, and the organizers ask their installers to make the ground feel like part of the sky.

In 2024, they asked us for a path. Ten meters of it.

What we built

Four MP-F mobile floor projectors, mounted on tripods around the perimeter of the walkway, projected a single continuous flower path down the center of the festival's main aisle. The path stretched from the entry tent to the constellation viewing area, about ten meters of responsive floor.

Visitors walked it as they entered. Petals scattered around each step. Children ran the length of it more than once.

Why four units

A 10-meter floor scene needs throw distance and overlap. We used four MP-F units with edge-blending so the seams between projectors disappeared. From above the boundaries are clear. From a visitor's eye level, it reads as one piece of floor.

The four-unit setup also gave the festival a second use case: at night, the same path becomes a dim, slow-drifting petal field. By day it is responsive. By dusk it is ambient. One install. Two moods.

What festival-goers experienced

The scene was a soft variant of Floor Flower Road, tuned for outdoor festival use. Petals drift down, gather at the feet of anyone standing still, and scatter when someone walks through. Kids learned the trick in about two seconds.

For an event whose theme is wonder, having a piece of floor that responded to them set the tone before they reached the telescopes.

Who this is for

City festivals, outdoor public events, university orientations, and anywhere a temporary install needs to feel permanent for a weekend. MP-F units are mobile, can be cabled together, and run from a single laptop or controller.
